PART TIME POSITION FOR EXPERIENCED FARM/STABLE HAND/RIDER

(Tryon/Mills Spring/Columbus area in Western North Carolina

Part time opening includes 3-4 days per week with occasional substitute days weekly. Permanent applicant preferred but will consider seasonal worker. Opportunity for future hours with proven track record. Growing small first class private equestrian facility looking for mature, experienced, detail oriented individuals to join our team and assist with day to day farm duties, horse management, exercise, training and riding. Only applicants that have PREVIOUS RIDING AND HORSE HANDLING EXPERIENCE and RELIABLE TRANSPORTATION will be considered. Experience as a western pleasure or trail rider a plus. A shared common philosophy of the value of natural horsemanship in the handling, training and riding of all horses is a must.

 

Position includes day to day farm duties like: mucking paddocks & stalls, feeding, watering, grooming, general horse management and handling along with light farm maintenance and daily farm operations. Must be confidently able to handle horses for a 5-9 stall barn, work well with clients and operate small farm vehicles. THIS IS PHYSICAL HARD WORK. If you do not have past experience with this type of labor and responsibility don't apply. I am looking for someone longterm if possible. 

 

A confident/experienced rider that has had professional instruction is required as duties include the daily exercise of my own personal horses and clients horses in training, along with preparing horses and riding along at times on guest trail rides. Training will be given so there is consistency for the horses and my team. Job starts immediately. English speaking is required.

 

POSITION DESCRIPTION

general upkeep of the barn and facilities 

grooming, working, riding and/or exercising of owners 6 well mannered horses 

management of daily needs for grass/pasture rotation 

riding, handling, conditioning and training of owners & clients horses ( 3 horses daily on average)

work with owner to follow appropriate training programs for all horses 

personal ownership of daily farm operations 

confident ability to handle horses 

manage the day to day operation of a 6 stall barn

work well with clients, professional attitude and appearance 

operate various tools and equipment 

maintain the grounds (paddocks/ barn area/ arena/ round pen)

comfortable with sole charge at times

 

DAILY DUTIES INCLUDE:

basic barn chores, feeding, stable maintenance, mucking stalls/paddocks, 

care for 5-7 horses; including feeding, turn out/in, medical (basic equine first-aid) and grooming 

management of daily needs for grass/pasture rotation 

riding, handling, conditioning of owners & clients horses ( 3 horses daily on average)

work with owner to follow appropriate training programs for all horses - Daily ground work, round penning, arena schooling and trail riding

responsible for cleanliness and presentation of barn area, arena, round pen and paddocks

prep horses for guest trail rides and assist owner with rides

 

REQUIREMENTS:

Non-Smoker, no chew. A strong and confident rider is crucial. - DO NOT apply for this position if you cannot confidently ride a horse or lift 75 lbs. You will be asked to demonstrate your riding ability during interview. Excellent time management skills. Ability to groom and tack multiple horses for private trail rides with clients. Ideal candidate embraces the philosophy and can demonstrate resistance free or natural horsemanship methods. Working with the public requires a neat and professional appearance at all times, teaching skills along with a professional and friendly style. 

 

RELIABLE: A good attitude, no drama, willingness to learn and take direction, hard worker, motivated. Mature with a good work ethic, responsible, enthusiastic, physically fit and in good health. Good with the clients and able to keep neat and professional grounds and barn. Applicant must be able to work to high standards. 

 

Ability to responsibly operate Gator and ATV vehicles. Training will be given. Job starts immediately. Clean record, must pass background & drug check if required, include work references, city of residence and own reliable transportation.
